CarbonGuide Recorder: privacy policy
Last updated 2026-10-25 · Published by CarbonWeb (carbonweb.co)
The CarbonGuide Recorder is a Chrome extension that works with the CarbonGuide app for monday.com. It records a workflow you walk through on monday.com so CarbonGuide can turn it into a step-by-step guide, and it plays guides back as an overlay on monday.com. This page explains what it collects, where that goes, and what it never does.
What the recorder collects, and only while you are recording
Nothing is collected until you press Start recording, and collection stops when you press Finish. While recording, the extension saves:
- Clicks: where you clicked, and the label of what you clicked (for example a button's name or a column title).
- Page addresses of the monday.com pages (and any pop-up windows the workflow opens) you move through.
- A screenshot of the visible tab at each click, so the guide can show each step.
- Keys such as Enter, Esc or Tab, and how many characters were typed before them. What you type into fields is never recorded, with one exception: the text in a monday board's own Search box, because "search for the item" is often a step.
- Voice narration, only if you turn on the microphone for a recording.
Where it is stored
Recordings are stored only in your browser (Chrome's local extension storage). They are not uploaded anywhere until you choose Build guide in the CarbonGuide app. You can export or delete any recording from the extension's pop-up, and uninstalling the extension deletes them all.
When it leaves your browser
| What | Goes to | When |
|---|---|---|
| The recording and its screenshots | The CarbonGuide app running inside your own monday.com account, which saves the guide, its screenshots and a monday Doc to a board in that account | Only when you click Build guide, and only to a CarbonGuide app you have allowed in the extension |
| Voice narration audio | The CarbonGuide app sends it for transcription to CarbonWeb's CarbonGuide server, which passes it to ElevenLabs (a speech-to-text provider) and returns the text. Audio is not stored on the server. | Only when you build a guide from a narrated recording |
| A monday.com session token for the CarbonGuide app | CarbonWeb's CarbonGuide server, to confirm the request really comes from the CarbonGuide app before the extension answers it | When the CarbonGuide app first talks to the extension |
Text from a guide (never screenshots or audio) may be sent to Anthropic (Claude) when you use CarbonGuide's AI features such as Polish or Ask; that is part of the CarbonGuide app, not the extension, and uses the AI keys your monday account has set up.
What it never does
- It does not sell, rent or share your data with anyone, and does not use it for advertising or credit decisions.
- It does not run analytics or tracking, and has no cookies of its own.
- It does not record anything when you are not recording, and does not read pages outside monday.com except pop-ups a recording follows you into (for which Chrome asks your permission first).
- During playback it only draws pointers on the page. It never clicks, types or changes anything for you.
- It does not load or run code from the internet.
Permissions it asks Chrome for
- monday.com sites: to record clicks and draw playback pointers there, and to talk to the CarbonGuide app.
- Tabs, scripting, active tab: to follow a recording across tabs and windows, and to take the screenshot of the visible tab at each click.
- Storage: to keep recordings in your browser.
- Offscreen document: to capture voice narration when you turn the microphone on.
- All sites (optional, asked for when you first record): so screenshots work reliably and a recording can follow you into a non-monday pop-up such as a sign-in window. Recording still works if you decline.
Your choices
You can pause or finish any recording, delete recordings from the pop-up, remove an app's access under "Allowed apps", or uninstall the extension to remove everything it stored. Guides already saved to monday.com are managed in your monday.com account like any other board item and doc.
